Afghanistan, Norwegian journalist Carsten Thomassen, 38, a journalist from the Oslo daily newspaper Dagbladet was killed in an suicide attack in serina hotel Kabul on 14th of January 2008 along with others5 people who were killed in blast as well

“More journalists are behind bars in China than anywhere else in the world. With 29 journalists recorded in our 2007 prison census, China topped the list as the world’s leading jailer of journalists for the ninth consecutive year. Lawyers who defend journalists are routinely harassed by the Chinese government. In 2007, lawyer Li Jianqiang who defended three of the 29 imprisoned journalists was barred from practice when authorities refused to renew his license. Gao Zhisheng, defense lawyer of another jailed reporter, Zheng Yichun, was himself imprisoned on subversion charges in August 2006”.
Iraq, Ali Shafeya Al Moussawi aged 23 a correspondent of the news website Baghdad was founded dead on 14th December 2007 in his home in the northeast Baghdad district of Habibiya. He was shot in his head and chest. Suspiciously he died on same day when Iraqi forced raided in his neighbouring street
Kenya though Kenyan media remain very sophisticated and well informed in past as compare to other neighbouring countries. After recent presidential elections and protest of opposition parties and ban on live broadcast and shows in December 2007 bring concerns all over the world. World remained in touch with local Kenyan news and information through blogs, forums and other internet facilities
Niger, Abdou Mahaman was killed by landmine in Niger’s capital Niamey when he was going back home after duty on 8th of January 2008. Some sources suggest that he was not target according to reports published on IFJ site but international federation of journalists demanding investigation behind the death of this journalist who was Radio director of R et M.
Pakistan, “There are new trends of violence. Killings of journalists have increased — in the last seven years by my count at least 24 journalists had been killed, an unprecedented number compared to previous regimes. We have counted over 100 cases of violence against journalists. Ten journalists have been kidnapped, most of them most likely by the government” these were the remarks by Muzhar Abbas from Pakistan one of the winner of International Press Freedom Awards 21st November 2007. Zubair Ahmed Mujahid, 23 November 2007 Mirpur Khas, in the southern province of Sindh was shot dead by a motorcyclist killer. He was almost 6th journalists who were killed in Pakistan with 2007. He was correspondent of the national daily Newspaper Jang.On 26th December 2007 a bomb blast happened in the office of a cable TV operator Ijaz in the area of Yakatoot, near Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province of Pakistan, though there were no injuries but caused damage and it was harassment by jihadist who gave warning time by time not to carry on music and other media activities. Nicholas Schmidle, an American journalist, was deported from Pakistan on 11th January, Friday, 2008. His deportation being linked with his article "Next Gen Taliban" published in Sunday's New York Times Magazine
Philippines Fernando Batman Lintuan a radio journalists was killed by two motorcyclists on 24 December 2007 in Davao, a province south of Manila. He was very critical of local government’s corruption
Sri Lanka, P.M.G. Chandrasekara, News Director of state own TV was assaulted on 27th December 2007 by accompanied henchmen of Labour Minister Mervyn Silva. Chandrasekhar’s staff was threatened as well just because that Crew missed coverage of a meeting where labour minister was speaking
Somalia, January 4th 2008, Mohammed Shidane Daban a journalist for the Banadir Radio station was detained by the government forces. On 13th January 2008 a director of Somaliweyn a Private radio station, Abdurrahman Mohamed Hudeyfi and also an other worker Bashir Mohammed Abdulkadi were detained as well. Above said three journalists are being detained by government forces in the capital, Mogadishu, for unknown reason. No charges have been brought against them and according to IFJ which represents journalists in most of the countries of the world, a radio journalist Abdikheyr Mohammed Jama was attacked on Thursday 10th January 2008 on his way home from work. Abdikheyr Mohammed Jama is a presenter and technician in Radio at Radio Galkayo in Puntland in Northeast Somalia He was saved but still fighting for his life
Tanzania Saed Kubenea, of the Kiswahili weekly Mwana Halisi, and Ndimara Tegambwage, an editor with the paper, were assaulted on Saturday, January 5, in their own newsroom in the Tanzanian capital Dar es Salam. They were assaulted by attackers having knives and iron bars and also by dangerous chemicals. Kubenea was injured in his eyes seriously because of chemicals and Tegambwage had injuries at head and was released by hospital after intensive treatment
